Welcome to the Hispanic Illinois State Law Enforcement Association (HISLEA) website. HISLEA is proud to serve the community and its membership through a variety of programs. We are a service oriented organization which has been in existence for over 30 years, and we are committed to improving the quality of life for the citizens of Illinois through public and private partnerships as well as community involvement.
HISLEA is the product of hard work, persistence and courage on the part of ambitious law enforcement professionals who were determined to have a voice in the law enforcement profession and gain the respect of the communities we are sworn to serve and protect. The organization was originally created in response to a need, and as a mechanism to address concerns with respect to the recruitment, retention, career advancement, mentoring and support of Latino officers working within Illinois law enforcement agencies. Today, our membership is comprised of sworn and civilian volunteers from federal, state, county, and local law enforcement agencies committed to equality, justice, and service.
The HISLEA motto “Equality through Professionalism” is simple but carries significant meaning to the membership. It is a call to action in achieving equal representation within the ranks of the law enforcement community, and in maintaining a fair and unbiased approach for elevating qualified and competent individuals. The motto is also a reminder of the importance of becoming involved in the communities we serve and engaging our youth in a professional and positive setting. It is a reminder of the necessity to participate in community service events and support charitable causes which help improve the quality of life for the underprivileged, or those who may be in transition. It is a reminder of our responsibility to provide safety education and awareness programs to those who may not otherwise have the opportunity.
Our efforts are designed to support and give back to the community, while providing a voice for Latino officers in the work place and empowering others to grow and succeed. We continue to move forward as we gain insight from the successes of the past and build upon the positive working relationship we have established over the years to better serve our communities and the membership in the future. These programs, the exchange of ideas, the expressed commitment of the membership and partners, and the call to service have been the impetus for the growth and success of the organization.
I encourage you to join us; whether you decide to assist at a community service event, participate in special fundraising activities, attend the annual awards and scholarship banquet, or simply offer a donation. Your time, talents and energy are welcome.
